Beau Photo  is proud to present Fusion 2013 – the third annual trade show of gear and techniques for the DSLR videographer: camera rigs, recording devices, camera stabilizers, lighting and grip equipment will all be featured in this one event. There is also a great lineup of speakers booked; Kirk Neff, Nick Didlick, Kharen Hill and Life Studios will share their insight and experience with you and provide inspiration for your DSLR work.

This year’s event will kick off with a special presentation by Ian Ruhter on Friday April 12th at the Hyatt Regency Hotel on Burrard St. from 7:00pm until 9:00pm. The main trade show and speaker series will take place at the Hyatt Regency on Saturday April 13th beginning at 8:30am. Focusing on the continually growing DSLR video market, we will be bringing together industry leaders and showcasing cutting edge products that help photographers and videographers create compelling work more efficiently.

This is also the same weekend as the Canadian Imaging Conference presented by the Professional Photographers of Canada. You can attend both great events at the same location. PPOC members receive 20% off Fusion 2013 seminars!

Capturing Music: A Music Portrait Seminar at SoundCheck Hollywood

This is the FINAL seminar in the Capturing Music series.

The workshop will take place on Saturday Feb 9th and Sunday Feb 10th in, and around SoundCheck Hollywood in West Hollywood, California – 8872 West Sunset Blvd West Hollywood, CA 90069.

The hours (subject to change) will be:
Feb 9th: 10am-6pm – afterward I will be signing exclusive prints, and copies of my book “Bring The Noise”.
Feb 10th: 11am-5pm

This seminar/workshop will focus entirely on doing portrait work with musicians. It will cover the process from setting up the photo shoot, scouting locations, posing, different types of lighting and lighting equipment for different situations, shooting endorsements, promotional images, CD layouts, Magazine layouts, as well as taking you through the process of what you do AFTER the shoot, invoicing, getting repeat business, etc.

The first day will be the seminar day, where all of the above is taught in the morning, as well as a lightroom and photoshop post processing tutorial… then in the afternoon YOU will be doing mock-photo shoots experimenting with different types of lighting equipment, lighting set ups, poses, etc.. I have also expanded the music photography business section even more, and will also include private portfolio critique for those who want it.

The second day will be a hands on photo shoot of special guest bands done first by myself, so you can see me work a real life situation photo shoot, then its your turn! you take over and do a real photo shoot with the band in various locations.

Capturing and Retouching Stunning Model Shots with Manny Cabo

Join Manny Cabo on August 11th as he shows you how to create stunning images of beautiful models from pre – post production. You will learn lighting setups utilizing Dynalite strobes and retouching techniques with the latest software! Instructor Manny Cabo will review some of his best work and show you lighting techniques to achieve similar images. Shortly after there shall be an open model shoot where attendees can photograph an assortment of beautiful models in stunning fashion using the lighting and knowledge they have just learned. Some models will be wearing custom made high fashion designs while others will be posing in lingerie. Using images freshly photographed of the models, Manny Cabo will show attendees how to retouch and enhance their images. All attendees will receive a certificate for 2 FREE Lab Hours in the Unique Photo Computer Lab where they can use newly learned techniques in the various programs used to enhance their images.

NECCC Photography Conference

Come and see Dynalite at the NECCC conference on July 13-15 in Amherst, MA!  We will providing lighting for the Portraits with Children class and Canon Explorer Of Light Stephen Eastwood’s Lighting For Beauty And Fashion Classes! Student discounts available to all those who attend!

The The New England Camera Club Council (NECCC) is a non-profit umbrella group for about 80 camera clubs in the New England states (Connecticut, Rhode Island, Maine, Massachusetts, New Hampshire, and Vermont). The Council was established in 1937 and incorporated in 1963.

Portraits With Children

Attendees have been asking for child models for years on their comment sheets. We are pleased to announce that for 2012, we will have two professional child models, ages 5 to 7 years available in a variety of outfits and props for you to photograph Saturday afternoon only. This will take place in one of the major model sets, Room CC174 on the lower level of the Campus Center. Lighting for the set will be provided by Jim Morton, National Sales Manager of Dynalite, Inc.

Lighting for Beauty and Fashion 

This is designed to range from simple one-light setups to multiple-light scenarios and show the use and need for many or few.  Stephen will explain when he chooses multiple lights and why at times a simple one-light setup is the best course of action.  Reasons for lighting design and placement will be presented along with several tips and tricks to making more elaborate lighting setups with fewer lights through smart placement.  Learn to create depth and dimension through rim, back, and separation lighting.  In a live lighting demo you will see a progression of several beauty lighting schemes, starting with a clean beauty setup with flawless light through more editorial style shadowed lighting. You will learn how to shoot beauty like a still-life, with a very specific highly gridded lighting scheme.  You will also learn about what to look out for and how to prepare for post-production those different lighting styles which can produce flawless beauty and glamour images.

Portraitists, whether painters or photographers, are always confronted with the challenge of creating evocative and meaningful images of their subjects. In this workshop, David aims to decode this mystery and explore techniques to help participants develop their own unique voice and style.

Portraiture is a collaboration between photographer and subject, requiring skills beyond the technical. After examining the work of some of the master photographers in the genre, we explore simplified methods of working with subjects, including using light and setting to “speak” with our images. Through studio and location demonstrations, discussions, guest speakers, and assignments, participants learn how to visualize each portrait and how to create the appropriate environment and lighting to convey mood and emotion. David explains and demonstrates his techniques for achieving meaningful portraits, covering the gamut of editorial, beauty, advertising, and journalism. Participants leave Santa Fe with a refreshed, more clearly defined personal vision and the ability to achieve tangible photographic results.

Lets Make Lighting Easy

Authorized Dynalite dealer Arlington Camera will be sponsoring Scott Smith’s Lets Make Lighting Easy on December 10th. Forget about all the technical terms such as loop, broad, butterfly and just do some basic studio lighting. Learn alongside Scott Smith simple one light setups and work up your knowledge of lighting to lighting setups with up to 4 light sources!  Attendees will go over what each light is doing and why it is there. Dyna-Lites Road and Roadmax lighting kits will be used to show the portability and ease of use.
