Rick Friedman has been a photojournalist for over three decades. Based in Boston, he travels the world for numerous publications, corporations, advertising assignments and film and television productions. His published work appears in Time, Newsweek, U.S. News, The New York Times, USA Today, The Guardian, Der Spiegel, Stern, Discover and many other publications. He has produced over 75 book and magazine covers. The books Hillary Clinton, Infra Structures, and The Gourmet Prescription are a few of his projects.

He is currently the President of the Boston Press Photographers Association. Friedman has won awards from the American Society of Media Photographers, the National Press Photographers Association, and the Boston Press Photographers Association. Join Claire Rosen on Saturday September 28th at Unique University.  This will be an intensive workshop covering the elements involved in creating conceptual and thematic imagery. Not your average apparel as Claire will have a professional model wearing a birdcage dress with like parakeets inside!  These images will be professional lit and can be used in your portfolios!

Seminar:
The first session is spent in the classroom looking at presentations of historical and contemporary photography, breaking down the elements that make a powerful photograph; the idea, mood, composition, technique, lighting, location, model, styling, retouching, etc., followed by exercises for brainstorming, concept development and preproduction. Students will then develop their own concepts.

Workshop: 
The second portion of the day is reserved to photographing conceptual scenarios from the mind of Claire Rosen.

Claire Rosen is a photographer and video artist blending a fine art sensibility with commercial work to create whimsical imagery inspired by fairy tales, fables, and other children’s stories. Her fashion, fine art and advertising work touch on the bizarre and unusual with the themes of vintage circus, burlesque, magic, curiosities and natural science interwoven throughout the images. Rosen is drawn both to beauty and darkness as it exists in life, and her images explore this duality.

In this seminar Dynalite VIP Manny Cabo will amply illustrate with a wealth of creative images the techniques used to create a sense of design, composition and imagination in this highly aesthetic and sultry branch of photography. Fine art figure photography embraces a plethora of important tactics that when blended together successfully will disclose a true work of art. The female form is inherently beautiful on its own and needs no approval for accentuating it’s beauty.

It is our job as image makers to properly uphold the majestic power of the female form by adopting the proper techniques to fully captivate audiences with arresting images. With that being said this seminar will discuss all the principles and techniques used to create stunning images of the female nude including, but not limited to: Equipment, Lighting, Composition, Positioning and above all Rapport with the model.

 

 

1:00pm – 2:00pm: 
Instructor Manny Cabo will review some of his best work with nude and implied nude models and show you lighting techniques to capture stunningly beautiful body highlights and tasteful images celebrating the female form.

2:00pm – 3:30pm: OPEN MODEL SHOOT - Attendees can photograph an assortment of beautiful models. Some models will be fully nude while others will be posing in lingerie. Each station will be lit with studio lighting.

3:30pm – 4:00pm:
Using images freshly photographed of the models, Manny Cabo will show attendees how to retouch and enhance their images.

All attendees will receive a certificate for 2 FREE Lab Hours in the Unique Photo Computer Lab where they can use their newly learned techniques in the various programs used to enhance their images. (Adobe Photoshop, Lightroom, Nik Software, Etc)

Capturing and Retouching Stunning Model Shots with Manny Cabo

Join Manny Cabo on August 11th as he shows you how to create stunning images of beautiful models from pre – post production. You will learn lighting setups utilizing Dynalite strobes and retouching techniques with the latest software! Pin Up Portrait Workshop

Join Photographer and model Deanna Marie of OneStopPinup.com as she gives you a comprehensive retrospective and personal instruction on “Pin Up” style photography and portraiture.  Having experience on both sides of the lens, Deanna Marie will teach you how to shoot from start to finish including how to style a models hair, makeup, wardrobe, and props for Pin Up portraiture.  Also included in this workshop are demonstrations with posing and lighting techniques, as well as shooting time with professional models.  This event will be held at Unique University in Fairfield, NJ on June 5th from Noon – 6:00.  Attendees are eligible for student pricing the day of this event.

Beauty for Photographers and Make Up Artists Claire Rosen and Gregg Hubbard

Dynalite VIP Claire Rosen and make up artist Gregg Hubbard have come together to present a 2 day intensive workshop for both professional photographers and makeup artists at Unique Photo starting Saturday May 21st and ending on Sunday May 22nd.   This course will provide the common vocabulary necessary for photographers and makeup artists to work together as well as covering essential practices for building a team, networking and moving forward with your portfolio.

Day 1 is spent in the classroom looking at presentations of contemporary beauty photography, discussing the elements that make a powerful photograph; the idea, mood, composition, technique, lighting, location, model, styling, retouching etc., learning about working on location with a team, a how to of brainstorming concepts and preproduction, as well as basic business practices. In the afternoon, the photographers and makeup artist will split up and the makeup artists will learn the foundations of makeup application and Photographers will learn about lighting, posing and composition through demonstration. The day will wrap up with students pairing into teams and preparing for their individual shoot concepts by coming up with an idea using mind mapping techniques and then creating a moodboard and shoot plan for day 2.
Day 2, makeup and photography teams will execute their individual shoot concepts and assist in other student shoots. Each student will have a time slot to photograph their own concept with a model, makeup stylist, lighting and assistants from the class. Each photography student will have a one on one editing session with Claire to help select the best image from the day and Gregg will review each of the makeup artists work throughout the day. Everyone will leave this workshop with a new network of models and artists to collaborate with as well as stunning and professional portfolio images.

 

MAKEUP ARTISTS will learn the foundations of makeup application for beauty and fashion shoots through lectures, demos and hands on application. This portion of the course will be taught by Gregg Hubbard.

PHOTOGRAPHERS will learn about beauty photography from lighting to posing and composition through lectures, demos and hands on shooting with a model. This portion of the course will be taught by Claire Rosen of North 7 Studio.
