Michael Grecco is known for pushing the limits of traditional portraiture with his edgy, offbeat style, making him one of the most sought after portrait photographers of today. His extensive background in editorial and advertising photography includes advertising work for clients such as ABC, IBM, Sprint, Walt Disney Co., and Yahoo!, as well as regular editorial work in Entertainment Weekly, Time, Esquire, Premier, and Maxim, to name a few.
Constantly striving for visual statements loaded with mood and mystery, Grecco creates powerful color images and striking black & white works that showcase his artful and dramatic use of light. Michaels work has earned much attention in recent years, setting the stage for his consistent involvement as an instructor in the prestigious Santa Fe Workshops and his frequent nationwide instructional seminars. His critically acclaimed book "The Art of Portrait Photography," illustrating the trademark sculpting of light and shadow that created fifty of his most prominent portraits, has been an international success.
Last year, Michaels endeavors included a tour of the Texas Gulf Coast with a 60 year old 4x5 camera and a cooler of Black & White film. The results? A moving series of naturally lit portraits capturing the hard life and weathered look of the charismatic locals. This departure from his more structured images has once again brought to light Michaels dynamic style and ability. His current adventure is a photo story on Native Americans living in various parts of New England.
Grecco has been featured three times in both Photo District News and American Photo, including a piece on his provocative Teri Hatcher cover for Movieline. Photo Insider has recently featured a story on Michael and the dynamic images that have brought acclaim to his exciting career. He was honored last year with a solo exhibition of his works by New Yorks renowned Saba Gallery. Michael was also featured in a Boston gallery show at The Photographic Resource Center in 1998, and has been included in two coffee table books, one by Raygun Magazine and one by Esquire. Michael Greccos accomplished career in photography has earned him awards in Photo Design, Communication Arts, AR 100, New York and Los Angeles Art Director Clubs, The Maggie Awards, Creativity, and the American Photography Annual.
